But Rather

This is from a friend of ours whom God, once again, brought to light His Word before her eyes.

Luke 12:31

But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

“I always have used Matthew 6:33 where it reads “seek ye first”, but Luke gives it a much clearer meaning!

“For me, when I read, “Seek ye first,” I think seek the kingdom of God first, most importantly, then seek the other things … just keep God first. But in Luke it makes it clear to NOT seek the other things at all, and to seek the kingdom of God instead of the other things.”

Pondering this thought this week has encouraged me quite a bit. The context that verse is surrounded by is Jesus giving the parable of a man who has much and decides he is going to build a barn, even bigger and better to hold all his STUFF. But God takes his life that night, and the man, who poured all he has into his STUFF is unable to even take that into the afterlife with him.

All that hard work here on earth ended up sitting in his barn – rotting. Doing no one good.

Instead of spending your energy on the temporary, invest in a stock market that won’t crash – the Kingdom of God; Souls; raising your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

I love the verse after it, as well:

Luke 12:32 KJV
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
