Today, we had a friend join our church and demonstrate her faith through baptism. Before she went back, our pastor allowed her to give a testimony. I asked her if we could post it here to encourage others. Both S.T. and I were amazed at the level of study and articulation she put into this and it really moved me to tears, having a glimpse into her background. We are thrilled she and her sweet family are being added to our congregation, – a family of families.

Before I get baptized, I want to testify that I believe in God with my mouth and I have asked him to come and change me and make me a new person (regeneration).
I was born and raised in a Methodist church. I have heard the Word of God all my life – which I am very grateful for – but not until recently I feel like I have started to mature in my faith by reading and understanding the Bible for myself.
Through my growth in faith I now understand that…
Everyone baptized in the New Testament was able to express his or her faith in Christ and willfully choose his/her own baptism.
Getting baptized is our first act of obedience. The Lord commanded his disciples to baptize. By obeying this bold act of obedience, it opens the door to God’s opportunities for us-
”Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” Matthew 28:19 KJV.
“Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Acts 2:37-38 KJVBaptism Shows the world that I have decided to follow Jesus.
I am choosing to be fully immersed in order to symbolize that I am dying with Christ. I am dying to my previous sinful nature burying that part of me and rising with Christ by being planted in the likeness of his death and resurrection.
By being baptized this means we can have total victory –
“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4 KJVWith all of that being said in regards specifically to baptism I believe I am abandoning false doctrine and embracing the biblical pattern for a believer as seen in the New Testament.
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized. Acts 2:41
