Faith Untested

I recently heard a phrase that took me back. A pastor I met recently told me, “faith untested can’t be trusted.” This caused me to think about certain things in my life, and how God wants us to trust Him and how He will give us tests and trials to increase our trust in Him. If we pass these tests we will have a solid foundation to stand on. I think that this proverbs talks to this point.

Proverbs 21:31
The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

We have a responsibility to prepare for the day of battle but our safety comes from God. If we are trusting in the horse, we will fall on our face. God wants us to trust in Him over anything else.

Job was tried by God, so that he – and all who read his story – would have a more sure foundation to stand upon.

Once God gives us a truth, we shouldn’t be surprised when God decides to try that new truth in our life. It is God’s way of proving to us, that He is trustworthy, and to help cement that truth in our lives. If God is showing you a truth about forgiveness, don’t be surprised if someone offends you.

If someone made a brand new bridge, with new technology and materials, It would take a few years for me to trust that style of bridge. If I built a chair out of some rickety old would and asked you to sit down, you might try to gracefully light on the chair, but if we came to a chair you knew and sat in often you would have no issues sitting in the seat. The reason is because it is tested.

God wants us to trust Him, therefore He puts us in places to show His trustworthiness.
