I absolutely love food. I am not a small person, so it shows readily. I have been introduced to some authentic Indian food, and it is rapidly becoming my favorite type; however there is something that is better than any Indian food I have ever tasted. There is something tastier than butter chicken, more savory that Naan bread, sweeter than Gulab Jamun, and more satisfying than a mango Lassi.

That thing is the goodness of God.

Psalm 34:8KJV

⁸ O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Hang with me for a second. I want you to see how the goodness of God is the best thing that we can ever taste. If you have never been made whole by the goodness of God then you need to taste it for the first time. A life without Jesus is going to be a miserable life. If you are reading this right now you may be experiencing depression, self-hatred, sickness, confusion, imprisonment, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, struggles, and all kinds of other miserable things that life can throw at us. All of life’s problems are a direct result of sin. Sin is when we break God’s laws with our actions, words, and even our thoughts.

When we sin, and we all have sinned (Romans 3:23), we become the enemy of God. What do you do to your enemy? You want everything to go badly for them, right? You would fight with them, hurt them, cheat them, and treat them like they were dirt – but not God. He loves us, wants to restore us, forgives us and even is good to us – all while we are his enemy. If we stay the enemy of God, he will be forced to punish us with death and destruction of Hell, but that is not what he wants. He wants us to taste his goodness. He showed his love by taking our punishment for the sins that we committed – he hung on the cross and died for you and for me and came back to life after three days to prove that he was God.

Right now, he is offering you the opportunity to taste and see that he is good, and he wants you to put your trust in him alone. No other religion has a god that would do this. Islam only has a god that will destroy his enemies and orders his followers to do just that. Buddha taught that life is suffering and how to get out of suffering is by suppressing desire, his god was self. This does not look like the God of the Bible. Hinduism has so many warrior-like gods that are taking vengeance upon mankind, or differing gods. Catholicism teaches that you must confess to another man – as sinful and wicked as yourself – to start the journey to forgiveness, not to mention the monetary and self infliction they say their god requires for forgiveness. No religion has even dreamed of a merciful, just, good God who invites you to become his child instead of his enemy. I still love Indian food, don’t get me wrong, but Jesus is the bread of life, and his goodness is sweeter than anything I’ve ever tasted.
