My quietness
Oh thou, who are my quietness, my deep repose
my rest from strife of tongues, my holy hill
fair is thy pavilion where I hold me still.
Back, let them fall from me
my clamorous foes, confusions multiplied
from crowding things of sense, I flee and in thee hide.
Until this tyranny be overpast thy hand will hold me fast
but though the tumult of the storm increase
grant to the servant strength,
Oh lord, and bless with peace.
Amy Carmichael (1867 - 1951)
Amy Carmichael often faced criticism over decisions she made; doubtless she made mistakes, but she found a quiet place in God. Psalm 91: states “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” I believe Amy found this secret place and has written here about it. It is the person of God. He brings her a quietness of spirit.
