In pursuit

The other day our dog followed us all the way to the road. We live a good bit off the beaten path, so she usually doesn’t follow us. Today though, it was different. she didn’t want to be left alone. She wanted to be patted and loved on. She needed the attention of her master. Dogs are a great example of having a single mind. When they want something, that is what they want. It is seldom left to the imagination what their desire is. This morning it was pouring down rain and the claps of thunder were awestriking. While our dog had a place to go to get out of the wet, she wanted to be inside near us. It didn’t matter how many times I tried to tell her to go to her room, she didn’t want to obey.

Image for a second that you had that same quality. That the thing you wanted was the thing you pursued, like a dog with a toy. putting your all in for that one moment to get that toy. now, what would your “toy” be? If someone were to ask you, “right now in life, what are you seeking for” What would your answer be? Think about it for a second. Are you pursuing anything? A better job, a nicer car, a better house, a new relationship? What is the thing that you are trying get? Maybe you are looking for that next experience. Perhaps you are in the pursuit of knowledge.

Everyone is seeking something, but most are seeking the wrong thing. The Bible records a man who pursued the right thing. He was marked by this desire. He had an insatiable desire to know God personally. He wanted to understand all that there was to know about God, and because of that he pursued God.

One clue to this is given to us in Acts 13.

Acts 13:22 KJV
And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

David became known as the man after God’s own heart. That means that he was in pursuit of the very nature of God, and because of that pursuit, God blessed him. I think a New Testament example of this is the apostle Paul. He gave his all for the gospel. Many times, we are told to seek God. Usually, this is followed by a promise for God to show up in a circumstance in our life. I want to be known as a person who pursued God and found him. I want me desires to be his desire, my wants his wants. My longing to be to know him better. I want to be in the never-ending pursuit of Jesus Christ, and his wisdom, and character.
